Makeup artist Sian Howard feels very lucky to have had the opportunity to train in movie and special effects makeup on the Gold Coast with Oscar-winning makeup artist Peter Frampton, before he retired from the industry. Sian attained her Diploma of Cinemagraphic Makeup from the Frampton Institute in 2005 and also holds Diplomas in Training and Assessment, Screen and Media, Cosmetics, and Beauty Therapy.
Having worked as a professional makeup artist for over a decade, Sian still approaches every face as a unique, individual and original creative opportunity. Her philosophy is all about being the best version of you – flawless without being fake.
The highlight of Sian’s career to date was working as Key Makeup Artist on Australian feature film Broke (2016). She has done celebrities for The Logies Red Carpet (2018), plus worked on top Australian actors including Logie-winner Claire Van Der Boom, Hollywood newcomer Justin Rozniak, Steve Le Marquand, Brendan Cowell and Pippa Grandison.
With an impressive reputation in wedding makeup, Sian’s bridal work has been featured on prestigious wedding blogs, WIN News and in Queensland Brides magazine. She has made up the faces of Mrs Australia 2015, a Miss Universe State Finalist, Summer Surf Girl and contestants from Australia’s Next Top Model and So You Think You Can Dance. Sian has represented top brands from Mecca Maxima, YSL, Lancome, ModelCo and Napoleon Perdis.
Sian has continued to learn personally from Australia’s top hair and makeup artists Rae Morris, Sarah Laidlaw, Isabelle De Vries, Rachel Montgomery, Martin Bray, Penny Antuar, Mia Connor and Lorna Evans, and international artists Uzo (NARS Global Artistry Director) and Marc Reagan (Bobbi Brown Global Artistry Director). While building a portfolio in editorial, she is a regular backstage at the Sunshine Coast and Byron Bay International Fashion Festivals, plus on campaigns for contemporary and emerging brands.
Formerly a respected makeup trainer at an international beauty academy, Sian also volunteered for “Look Good, Feel Better” (a valuable program for cancer patients) and is the resident makeup artist for all Coolum Theatre productions.
Away from makeup Sian enjoys an active lifestyle on the beautiful Sunshine Coast with her partner - photographer James Thorne, competes in triathlons and volunteers as a Surf Life Saver.
