Long-time loves Sam and Todd chose to wed in the glorious Royal National Park in Sydney’s south, not far from the home they bought together, followed by a reception by the beach where they grew up.
Sam created an elegant, romantic, but laid-back theme by combining the natural bush setting with Australian native florals and an exquisite “Hartlyn” gown from Rachel Gilbert. She chose loose waves worn to one side with a double tiered long veil. Sam’s two bridesmaids wore black wide-leg jumpsuits, with loose textured upstyles and classic winged liner to complete the look.
As Sam doesn’t usually wear much makeup on her olive skin – and because at SHM we believe #realisbeautiful – we started with an illuminating primer (Mecca Cosmetica Lit From Within) to create a subtle glow. I kept the foundation fresh and dewy by buffing it to a natural finish (NARS Sheer Glow), adding a little more coverage and contour with mineral powder only where needed to help control shine (Kylie’s Professional Mineral Powder Foundation).
Sam had a bruise on her nose caused by overzealous new puppy Hank – lucky he’s very cute – so I waited to see what still showed through the base and then custom-mixed concealer to disguise it (RCMA VK Palette). The complexion was finished with cream blush pressed in to cheekbones (RCMA Cream Blush Palette “CTV” and “Gena Pink”) and a dusting of highlight (Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder “Radiant Light”).
We created a bronze base for the eye by pressing a cream shadow from lashline to crease and then blending out (Kylie’s Professional Mineral Transformer with Mineral Shadow “Mocha”). I defined the crease and lower lashline with a matte mid-brown eyeshadow (Urban Decay Naked2 Basics “Primal”) and added warm peach accents to the lid with shimmer eyeshadow (Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar “Bon Bon”). To increase dimension and define the eye, I smoked a chocolate shadow into the upper and lower lashlines (Urban Decay Naked2 Basics “Undone”) and added plenty of individual lashes (Helen Dowsley Lashes).
Initially Sam wanted to go with a classic red lip, which we applied at the trial and it paired beautifully with the elegant simplicity of the gown. However, Sam decided when it was time to kiss the bride she didn’t want a careful peck with her new husband and felt even a long-wearing red lip might get a bit messy! In the end we settled on a dusty rose-pink crème lipstick to suit the natural tones in her makeup and provided a post-kiss touch-up kit to repair any smooching smudges.
Sam says “I was so happy with my makeup! Sian made me feel beautiful and ready to say ‘I do’. My bridesmaids and my mum looked great too, and our makeup lasted all night. ”
